Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty completed his graduate degree in Medicine and post-graduate work in General Surgery at the Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and was trained in Cardiac Surgery at Guy’s Hospital, London. He gained invaluable experience in heart operations in the West Midlands rotation. He returned to India in 1989 and initially worked at the B.M. Birla Hospital in Kolkata in Eastern India. After some time, he moved to Bangalore and started the Manipal Heart Foundation at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. He has many patients and admirers from all over the world, especially in Southern Asia. Dr. Shetty founded the Narayana Hrudayalaya (NH) City Hospital in 2002, a multi-specialty hospital in Bommasandra on the outskirts of Bangalore. He is one of the most experienced doctors in the world for performing specialised operations such as the Bental Procedure for Aortic Root Aneurysm and Aortic Arch Replacement surgery for Dissecting Aneurysm of Aorta, Pulmonary Endarterectomy for Chronic Pulmonary Embolism and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting on beating hearts.

Dr. Colin John, head of the pediatric and adult surgical programmes at NH, is an alumnus of the Christian Medical College, Vellore; the Royal Adelaide Hospital; the Westmead Hospital; and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children; all in Australia. He is one of the most experienced cardiac surgeons in the world specialising in operating on children, especially those suffering from complex heart problems such as Tetralogy of Fallout (TOF) or in simple terms ‘Blue Babies’.

Dr. P.V. Rao, Chief of the Heart and Lung Transplantation Programme at NH, is an alumnus of Harefields Hospital in London, UK and the University of Massachussets, Worcester, USA. He strongly believes that terminal heart failure, mainly due to ischaemic cardiomyopathy and left ventricular aneurysms can be corrected by his favourite technique called “DOR’s Procedure” along with Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting operation. With over 200 left ventricular volume reduction surgeries to his name, he is one of the most experienced in the world in this procedure. He has also conducted a large series of carotid endarterectomies to improve blood supply to the brain, along with bypass grafting operations.
