HISTORY
Dr Patrick Lawrence, takes his carrier-a family doctor- not only to treat individuals but also a responsibility providing health care to the community. He and his support team had started outreach medical programs since the 90’s, giving free medical screening and treatment to both rural and urban area around the Klang Valley. More than 10,000 underprivileged had benefit from these medical services. It was by a chance that Dr Patrick had a meeting with the world-renowned cardiac specialist and founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital in Bangalore, India. They share the same idea where “No one should be deprived from getting medical attention due to financial constraint“. Dr Devi Shetty was interested in offering free medical surgery to patients in need. Dr Patrick and Dr Shetty then came up with the idea of creating a health screening centre for the masses with a smart partnership with NH involving telemedicine.
The application to set up MediAssist4U was started in September 2005.
A local administrator was also enlisted to handle all the necessary paperwork
to commence the organization. By December 2005, the clinic site was established
and later in 2007 moved to Ampang. The location in Ampang seemed ideal
as it is convenient and accessible to the public. The location also is
perfect to cater for a diverse community in which MediAssist4U wished
to serve.
MediAssist4U invited two technicians from NH to help initiate the telemedicine technology link with NH. Mr. Lakshman Kumar from NH assisted with the technical aspect while Mr. Chandru trained the nurses on the TMT machine. They stayed for a period of 2 months to finalise all details.
In March 2006, MediAssist4U proudly opened its doors to the public and began operations. The official launch of the Medical Screening Association (Persatuan Penyaring Perubatan, Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor) was held at the First Alumni Reunion Dinner on December 12, 2006. |
